"Though promoters around the country report strong early ticket sales for festivals and summer tours, the recession is causing jitters. This year Coachella, which has the most glamorous reputation of all American festivals, began selling tickets on layaway, and 18 percent of its customers took that option, Mr. Tollett said.

The proliferation of big festivals, like Bonnaroo near Nashville and Lollapalooza in Chicago, has not been without casualties. This year Langerado in Miami shut down, citing the economy. The Pemberton Festival in British Columbia is on hiatus after only one year, although its promoter, Live Nation, said the problem was permit delays." [NY Times]

Lollapalooza 2009: Just Shoot Me Now…

…because

A) I can't afford it,

B) I can't take Harry and

C) I can't leave Harry in NY while I go.

Why can't Lollapalooza tour like it did way back when? Why can't it be in New York? ARGH.

August 7-9. It’ll be held at Grant Park in Chicago, Illinois. Thanks, Lolla-people. TOO FAR AWAY!

Normally I'd not give a crap, but this time the lineup is MY lineup. This year's Coachella Festival is not my kind of lineup. Even this year's Ultra Fest isn't enough to make me feel I'm missing out. Lollapalooza is just what I'd want to have here close by, and the reason is the following bands:

Jane's and Nine Inch Nails are touring, but the chances of getting tickets to Jones Beach are slim to NONE and It's NOT HAPPENING. I've been through this before, and I know I'm just not going to get to go. Pshh. I'd settle for the NIN show in Wantagh. Get me tickets.

Trent Reznor. Born the same day as me. Same age (Maybe, shall not say on my blog, but very well could be, indeed.) Moody. I wonder if it's a Taurus thing, a trait of creative people. He's brilliant, talented and damn good looking.

My friend Keith introduced me to "Pretty Hate Machine" in '89 and said, "This is going to be the next biggest thing, just you see, listen to this, it's going to blow your mind."

Boombox Radio is Back… Sort Of.

This news is two months late because I keep forgetting to post it, and I've had a lot going on here with my father's health (and the surgery.) Finally, Sirius XM has listened to it's listeners. I'm going to just take the information from Liquid Todd's blog and repost it here, because it's easier than writing something from scratch.



Zeros+Ones is now Boombox Radio

Sirius XM is making some moves to try and bring back some Boombox programming. They haven’t given me a whole channel to work with...yet...but there have been some positive developments.

My Zeros+Ones show on Alt Nation is now Boombox Radio. I was afraid they were just going to change the name without adjusting the format but - at least for the first couple shows - I’ve been able to play whatever I think is best. So I’m spinning a few breaks rekkids as well at the remix stuff. Fun! Saturday nights, 10pm-Mid on Alt Nation (Sirius 21 | XM 47). Replay at 2am on Wednesday nights. Also DJ Icey has returned to the Sirius XM airwaves with Automatic Static on Area (Sirius 38 | XM 80). It airs Fridays at noon EST. Glad to see Icey banging the breaks on Sirius again.

I’m working on more Boombox-related programming as I type. Or I will when I finish typing. Of course, as always, I’ll keep you all posted.

Rockin' to the Imagination Movers!

This is my son's latest, most favorite show, and it's on the Disney channel. For once, I can actually tolerate a daytime child's show without wanting to slam my head into a wall. This is a show for mom's who cannot even stand 5 seconds of Barney, and who feel they might need to throw the TV out if they see one more episode of most of what's on NOGGIN lately — and this is coming from a mom who used to like Noggin's programming! I liked The Upside Down Show, and 64 Zoo Lane is wonderful (though you need to DVR it or tape it since it's only on in the middle of the night, or rather, the pitch black morning), and I'll admit that at first I thought Little Bear was totally "faggy," but I like the show now that I've paid attention and gave it an honest chance, and like it even more when it's calm, kind stories put my son to sleep for nap time. But if I see some of the other shows one more time, I might need sedation. ;) Noggin shouldn't have put LazyTown on in the morning; my son hates it. He doesn't care for Franklin either. But Noggin putting Lazytown in the 10am slot made me have to find a show for my son's after breakfast lazy time, and that's how we found The Imagination Movers, so thank you, Noggin, for changing the line-up and making us change the channel!
